Today was the launch of the MILO-MOE Tryathlon @ Saint Andrews Junior College. Turn out was good and I gave a short speech. We then had a short run about 400m after the event. haha. And there were tons of milo to drink.

I am really impressed by the thoughts put into organising this event with the safety of the kids taking center-stage. For example, the swim route is mapped out such that it is done along the shore rather than the usual out and back from the sea. This is great for children taking part in their first sea swim which is indeed really different from swimming in a pool and they can seek assurance that they can stand and walk anytime if they get tired. It is definitely an event suitable for all children no matter what their age or ability.

It is also great to introduce triathlon not just as a sport to challenge our bodies, but also a sport than can be enjoyed by children. I particularly like the concept where no timings and rankings will be recorded as it will emphasize the importance of enjoying the sport rather than be surrounded by pressures of going fast and winning. Especially so for Singaporean kids who are exposed to the stresses of performing well in both school and their CCAs. This event will be the first to break through these mindsets and focus entirely on the ‘fun’ part. There are tons of lucky draw prizes to be won at the event such as oakley sunglasses and avanti bicycles and helmets!

Hurry sign up kids!
