First 50 Participants at the Launch of the Tri Factor Series 2009 in Sentosa
Even though you can run, swim and cycle the distance, have you ever felt apprehensive about taking part in a triathlon? Do you find participating, too daunting of a challenge? Probably the hardest mental inertia one has to overcome when trying out a full triathlon will be the fear of facing up to the gruelling demands of the course itself. Now there is an opportunity to water down this level of fear, and rise up to the challenge, through the TRI-FACTOR SERIES 2009.
TRI-FACTOR SERIES 2009, as the name suggests, is essentially a series of 4 races. The first 3 races are individually dedicated to each of the different ‘factors’ in a triathlon – Swim (3 May), Bike (14 June) and Run (2 August). The 4th and final race will be a culmination of the series, bringing together all the disciplines into 1 full triathlon race on 13 September. In short, participants get to try out each leg of a triathlon first in separate attempts, before going for a complete triathlon.
The event held its inaugural launch on 5 April 2009 at Tanjong Beach in Sentosa. Led by 2007 SEA Games Gold Medallist and Official Race Ambassador of TRI-FACTOR SERIES, Mok Ying Ren, and organised by The Swimming Room, eager swimmers and novice triathletes attended the first open water training session during the official launch. Participants were kept busy by trading race tips with one another and getting training advice from the triathlon expert himself.
Mok lauded the participants for taking in the Triathlon challenge, “I think this is a great event which allows people who are curious about what a triathlon is to participate in one by taking small steps towards the event finally. It is a great way for children and adults to challenge their limits!”
The event has already seen a healthy response from the public, as more than 1000 sign ups have been reported at the time of its official launch. The event is especially attractive to people who are hoping to boost their confidence in swimming out in the open sea, as well as to build up their stamina to last a full triathlon.
Race Director Eugene Ting noted, “TRI-FACTOR SERIES aims to make Triathlon accessible and enjoyable for all sport lovers. With highly affordable prices and a friendly race atmosphere, anyone can have a first go at triathlon with TRI-FACTOR SERIES.”
