Firstly, though, I feel the organisers should be commended on their successes. The running route was well picked out with abundant water points. A mild annoyance, however, the presence of crowds and obstructions, was something that was perhaps unavoidable and hence blame needn’t be dished out. The generally smooth conduct and punctual start facilitate a good race for me, allowing me to clock a good time.
I was one of the prize winners today. I was disappointed that they did not call our names when announcing the prize winners. They were calling our number tag numbers. When I approached the officials to request to call our names, I was brushed off. This is unacceptable as it does not show any respect to we runners who put in so much hardwork in am attempt to break our own limits
Next, there were a lot of disputes over the results for the women 10km event, yet no one was attending to the ladies. In an attempt to facilitate in the conflict resolution, I approached Mr David Chan whom was initially gathering the prize winners and was wearing the official tag. He brushed me away claiming 'that is not my business. I am just in charge of announcing. Go find someone else.' Upon asking whom I could talk to, he proved equally unapproachable and forcefully directed me to a hostile compatriot of his whom eventually turned out to be equally unhelpful. This showed the incompetence and a lack of basic humanity among the organisers. Later we managed to get another official whom was calm and helped to explain the situation to the ladies. Sadly, the resolution was confined to rhetoric alone and after the prize giving was over, the prizes were misallocated. . The officials were missing this time with no one offering to mediate. I approached Mr Chan once again and he again absolved himself of all responsibilities and on asking who to go to he referred us to information counter.
I just look forward to participate in events that are well organised and enjoyable. It is sad that the organisers of the passion run did not improve on their second attempt of organising this event.
With the increasing prices of registration fees for races, I dun understand why the standard of organisation is still at rock bottom. At least, give us runners some respect and not just organising events to earn money.
