Today, I was very impressed by the Swimming Room/ Orange Room (http://www.theswimmingroom.com/index.php) (http://orangeroom.com.sg/) Team for pulling off such a great event on their first try of organising a mass-participation event! It was the first time i saw an event finishing half an hour ahead of schedule and the running of the event was really smooth. There was no lag time and and things were flowing like clockwork and there was no point in time where nothing is happening.
The route was rather messed up by the rain in the wee hours of the morning, but the volunteers and TF crew were able to set them back up before the event started at 8am. As the ambassador of the event, I led in some warm up stretching for some interested participants and helped to flag off the event.
It was really great to see the participants being very excited and It was my first time as an athlete to stand by the side and watch the competition instead of racing in it.
The last event of the day which was a 500m swim for many kids below 12 years old was the highlight as many of these kids were new to open water swimming! It was great to see younger children being exposed slowly to triathlon.
The event ended with me giving out the prizes and it all ended at 11.30am! What a great success!
Let me just run through some important factors that make a great race and how Trifactor did well!
1. Route – the route was well laid out with huge buoys along the whole swim route. great for newbies and beginners who were the main target audience of this event!
2. Cap colours were well chosen and they contrasted well with the buoy colours and water except for the last wave which was a little similar! Choose another colour next year!
3. Wave starts were on time and thats very good as participants can anticipate their start time with accuracy and precision and no need to worry about delays
4. Demarcations of where to run out of the sea and back in were clearly done with coloured cones.
5. Perhaps, there can be rubberbands to allow participants to wear on their wrists for categories with more laps like the 3km cat which required 4 lap swim
6. Shirts were well designed and the checkboxes on the shirt (you will know if you participated) makes one wanna complete the series!
Today also saw Joshua and Jon Ma racing. hahaa. Very fun man. then we took some pics together. Realy nice to see them swimming. haha.
FInally, thanks to the organisers for inviting me to be the ambassador. I really enjoyed today’s event and I hope everyone did too!
Do drop in your feedback into my tagbox too if you have any and I will convey to the organisers. See you at the next event!
