Yesterday was the Tribike 2009, the 2nd leg in the Trifactor series 2009. It was held at the Changi Exhibition Center.

I reached there at 7 because I was to flag off the first wave of 60km riders at 8am. I took a cab down from home and I get to see the stretch of the Changi Aviation Road all the way in from changi coastal road. It was a really a beautiful stretch of road to ride and cycle on but it is usually closed to public! what a waste! haha

Anyway, saw joshua and Jon Ma over there. haha. They were really good stuff man. They did the 60km.

I also saw some OCBC boys Jun Rong and Ah Huat who totally owned the 40km field with average speed of 42km/h:

And Some other friends like Gerald, Raphael and Scott! PIC_0335PIC_0337 PIC_0336

Here was the start position of the races. There are like 10 waves with distance ranging from 60km, 40km and 20km. There was also a relay category which sadly only one team took part which was Jia jie’s team. haha. PIC_0332

Anyway, the race was very well organised:

1. The roads were really wide. at the U turn points, it was 4 lane wide. Great for newbies and it was really safe

2. There was safety vehicles: ambulances, a few motor bikes, a few SUVs.

3. Water points not really neccessary but there were lots of Boost at the finish line. (However they ran out leaving about 5% of participants without the boost) However, there was still more than enough plain water. So i think its fine!

4. The route was easy and simple, with more than enough marshalls. However, initially for the first wave, I felt that the turning point at the exhibition center was rather confusing and so did some cyclists. I imeediately got the organisers to rearrange the cones to make the route more clear, and it did and we did not have any problems after that.

Some areas of improvements which I will be working with the Trifactor team for next year:

1. I think the finishing point being far away from the starting point and site of canrnival some how causes the event spirit to be a little dull. I think all should be congregated at the same area to hype up the spirit and the Emcee can be heard everywhere.

2. More Electrolytes drink at the end

3. There were still some results disputes which i think can be improved on as it only brings frustration to the athletes.

In conclusion, I feel that the TriBike was a great success coming from a company that is first venturing into multisports events. Like the TriSwim, it has definitely succeeded in bringing the sport of Triathlon to the masses.

Hope so see more people at the Tri Run in August!
